The Basics of Baccarat

Baccarat

Baccarat is one of the most popular casino games available online, as well as in traditional casinos. It is easy to learn, and has a low house edge. It is also a fun game, and can be played by players of all ages and skill levels.

The rules of baccarat are simple, and the main objective is to get as close to nine points without going over. This is achieved by looking at each of the two cards, and dividing the total by the number of digits. If the count is greater than 9, the player can drop the first digit of the sum to get the true value.

There are several versions of baccarat, and most of them use three or six standard card decks that are shuffled. The cards are then placed in a dealing machine, known as a “shoe,” which is operated by a croupier.

In addition to the standard Banker and Player bets, many Baccarat casinos also offer a Tie bet. This is a wager that both the Player and Banker hands will result in the same number of points, and typically offers odds of 8 to 1. In some locations, you can find slightly higher odds of 9 to 1.

How to Play

The game is played by three players, with each player sitting around a table divided into two halves, with the player on the left being called the ‘player’ and the player on the right being called the ‘banker’. When playing a hand, the dealer deals cards to both the player and the banker in a clockwise rotation.

Once all of the cards are dealt, both the player and the banker have the option to decide whether to draw a third card. If the player chooses to draw, the dealer draws a card for them with a total of 5 or less. If the player chooses to stand, the dealer does not draw a card for them with a total greater than 5.

When drawing a third card, the player must follow the rule set out by the casino. If the total is 0 to 5, they must hit, and if it is 6 or 7 they must stand.

If the banker asks for a third card, he must follow the same rules as the player. The banker must also draw a third card if they have a total of 5 or less, and he must not draw a third card with a total of 6 or 7.

How to Win at Baccarat

Once the cards are dealt, each player must decide how to wager their money. The banker is the first to place a bet, and the player must place his bet after it is placed by the banker.

The player must then either call a bet (called a ‘carte’) or a bet that does not (called a ‘non’). If the player has a ‘carte’, the banker will then draw a card for them with a count of zero.
